About Anne Rice

Anne Rice (1941–2021) was one of the most celebrated authors of gothic and supernatural fiction, best known for creating the lush, seductive world of The Vampire Chronicles. Born Howard Allen O’Brien in New Orleans, Louisiana, Rice grew up surrounded by the city’s blend of beauty, decay, and mysticism — influences that would shape her lifelong fascination with immortality, faith, and desire. Her debut novel, Interview with the Vampire (1976), redefined the modern vampire myth. Told through the confessions of the melancholic Louis and his charismatic maker Lestat, the novel transformed the vampire from a monster into a tragic, philosophical antihero. It became an international sensation and remains one of the cornerstones of contemporary gothic fiction.

Rice continued the saga with The Vampire Lestat (1985) and The Queen of the Damned (1988), expanding her universe into a vast, mythological history of immortal beings. Her vampires grappled not only with bloodlust but with questions of morality, loneliness, and redemption — themes that resonated with readers across generations. The series grew to include over a dozen novels, culminating in later works such as Prince Lestat (2014) and Blood Communion (2018), which reflected Rice’s enduring fascination with the interplay between power and humanity.

Beyond her vampire saga, Rice explored other supernatural worlds with equal intensity. The Mayfair Witches trilogy — beginning with The Witching Hour (1990) — wove together family history, witchcraft, and New Orleans decadence, while novels like The Mummy, or Ramses the Damned (1989) and Servant of the Bones (1996) showcased her gift for reimagining myth and history. Under the pseudonyms Anne Rampling and A. N. Roquelaure, she also wrote erotic fiction that pushed literary boundaries. In the 2000s, Rice turned to spiritual fiction with Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt (2005), reflecting her renewed Christian faith at the time.

Rice’s work has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide and inspired numerous film and television adaptations, including the acclaimed 1994 movie version of Interview with the Vampire starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, and the recent television series that has brought her characters to a new generation. Her richly atmospheric prose, emotional intensity, and exploration of moral ambiguity have influenced countless writers and redefined dark fantasy for the modern age.

Signed first editions of Anne Rice’s novels are highly sought after, embodying the mystique and sensuality that define her storytelling. Each book offers a doorway into her hauntingly beautiful worlds — places where darkness and grace intertwine.
