E.L. James is a British author best known for her bestselling erotic romance series Fifty Shades of Grey. Born Erika Mitchell in London in 1963, she worked for many years in television before turning to writing fiction. Her rise to literary fame was both unconventional and meteoric. What began as fan fiction inspired by Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series evolved into an original trilogy that would go on to become a global publishing phenomenon.

The Fifty Shades series – comprising Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed – follows the intense relationship between Anastasia Steele, a shy college graduate, and Christian Grey, a wealthy entrepreneur with a complicated past and a taste for dominance and control.
